From the very beginning of starting this blog journey, I’ve told myself that I’m going to follow the Three P’s: Patience, Persistence, and Perseverance.
Now, the Three P’s (as I call it) is nothing official. It’s just something that I personally came up with to assist myself with the highs and lows of starting and maintaining a blog. I knew going into this that creating and growing this blog is truly special to me, and I wanted to put my best foot forward. I made the decision to start my blog self-hosted from day one. Before doing my research, I never really knew the differences in having a self-hosted versus hosted site. From what I’ve read, people all have different opinions on this topic. It’s all about making the choice that you feel is best for your blog.
Is it crazy to be self-hosted without even knowing if anyone will like and engage with my blog? Yes, it probably is. But it was the decision that I chose, and I’m super happy with it. There was a slight learning curve, and I’m sure that I’ve already made a mistake… or two. But I’m learning, I’m growing, and I’m stoked for what’s ahead!
So, how exactly do the Three P’s come into all of this?
There were many, many things that I thought about and told myself before starting this blog. I’m one of those people who tends to overthink and over analyze at times. IThe number one thing that I knew I’d have to practice is patience. Would it be amazing to suddenly wake up to millions of followers/subscribers? Heck yes! But, the reality is that it’s freaking hard. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so I can’t expect for my blog to just take off instantly! Some people get lucky and it happens pretty much overnight, but that’s not always the case. Even the biggest bloggers/youtubers/etc have all had to start somewhere. You have to keep pushing, keep driving, stay focused. I’m setting small goals for my blog and socials. Slowly but surely doing my darnedest to achieve them each time. That’s where persistence comes in.
I’m only in the early stages of blogging, but I’ll be the first to admit that it can be pretty discouraging to put up a post and get zero feedback. Zero likes. Zero views. There is nothing pleasant about the number 0 in general, but definitely in the blogging/social media world. No matter your niche or platform of choice, posting consistently and thinking up material that will spark engagement is H A R D. I’m always asking myself if the material I post is worth someone wanting to follow me. If I weren’t me, would I want to follow me? I generally want people to want to follow me. Want to read my blog posts. Want to like my photographs on Instagram. As a small time blogger, it’s a little intimidating to see others who have super duper professional blogs or incredibly aesthetic Instagram feeds. But, I always remind myself that everyone had to start somewhere. It’s amazing to see just how far someone else has come, it’s truly inspiring.
I know what I want for this blog, and I’m determined to achieve that goal. One day, one week, and one month at a time. That’s where the perseverance comes in. I may not be a jet-setter who takes lavish trips all around the world (i wish). I may not be able to get my hands on every single new release (ugh, bills). Heck, I may not even be able to achieve the perfect aesthetic to make you swoon (i try). But, I’ll do my best to produce quality content and get my hands on as many products as I possibly can. I’m already loving getting to meet so many new people, and interacting with ya’ll. It’s incredible how many connections you can make from networking, and simply saying ‘hello!‘ Thank ya’ll for the warm welcome into the blogging community.
