Kiyah’s 11 Questions:
Q: What’s helped you the most since starting your blogging journey?
A: Honestly, GOOGLE. I did my research beforehand, but even still there is so much that you don’t learn until you’re actually doing something. There is definitely a lot more that goes into blogging than a lot of people probably realize. Luckily, so many others have already gone on this journey so there is an endless supply of learning materials out there. Having those tools has helped me with my own blog tremendously.
Q: Who has supported you the most with blogging and how?
A: That would definitely have to be my boyfriend, Kevin. We’re in the middle of renovating our home, so starting a blog couldn’t have come at a busier time but it’s something that I’ve been wanting to do for ages. He’s really been so patient and understanding when I have to take time to work on my content, or interact online.
Q: Have you told anyone about your journey into blogging? If so how did they respond?
A: I’ve told all of my family, and friends. They have all been amazingly supportive, and super excited for me! I was super nervous about telling anyone in the beginning, but I honestly have an amazing group of people that I surround myself with. We’re all about lifting each other up.
Q: If you could change one thing about your blog what would it be?
A: My blog is my baby, so maybe I’m a little biased when I say that it’s already perfect. I’ve worked so hard, and poured so much into this blog that in my eyes it’s perfect just the way that it is.
Q: Who would you love to do a guest post for?
A: Prepare yourself for the most cliche answer ever, but honestly I would be honored to do a guest post for anyone. I’ve never done a guest post before, but it is something that I think is super fun and would definitely be open to. The fact that someone is allowing another creator to guest on their blog is so cool!
Q: What’s your dream collaboration?
A: Does Jeffree Star count? I know that he’s not a blogger, but I’ve been a fan of his for awhile. Even before he delved into the Beauty Boss and Beauty Guru world. He may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he seems like a lot of fun. Plus, he’s someone who has endless amounts of experience when it comes to the beauty world. I would love to pick his brain on all that he’s experienced, and what all he went through starting Jeffree Star Cosmetics!
Q: What do you expect to get out of blogging?
A: I honestly would love to make a career out of blogging. Bottom line. I consider myself to be an extremely hard worker (sometimes too hard), and I would love the chance to essentially work for myself. Every job that I’ve had, I’ve worked for someone else. Following their rules, and working their hours. Blogging would give that opportunity to be my own boss.
Q: What’s the best advice you have ever received?
A: The best advice that I’ve ever received would probably be to be yourself. My mom has always been big on just allowing me the freedom to experience and try anything that I’ve wanted. The fact that she allowed me to venture into so many different things has really shaped the person that I am today. I don’t allow anyone to put me in a box. I love that I’m into so many different things.
Q: One thing that you wish you knew how to do.
A: Hmm, probably play the guitar. I own a guitar, but I’ve actually never learned how to play. My excuse use to be that I would get my nails done all the time which makes it so hard to pluck a guitar. But, I no longer get my nails done so I have no excuse. I’m going to learn!
Q: Dream career and why?
A: My dream career would most likely be one where I get the opportunity to help people. I’ve always loved being able to help others in any way that I can. We all need a little help from time to time.
Q: Would you live in the mountains, beach, or desert? Why?
A: I know that there are some really gorgeous locations in the desert (Dubai is on my bucket list), but when I think of the desert I think of heat which is no bueno. I’m from a coastal town, so I’d probably choose the beach. I’ve always loved the water. Although, I’m going to the mountains early next year for a wedding and I’m super excited. I’ve been wanting to go to the mountains for awhile!
Emily’s 11 Questions:
Q: Why did you start blogging? Why do you continue?
A: I started blogging because I really wanted a platform where I could meet new people, and share ideas with them. I may not know it all, and maybe my tips aren’t the best but if I can inspire at least one person then that’s enough for me. I love interacting with people, and bonding over a post or an item. It’s really incredible. I continue to blog because I thoroughly enjoy creating content and the blogging community is so amazing!
Q: How do you come up with your blog post ideas? What’s your process?
A: I wouldn’t say that I have a set process, but I just try and think of posts that I myself would want to read. If I wouldn’t want to read it, why would anyone else? That’s usually my thought process. I also don’t believe in forcing content just to have a new post. I try and keep a consistent schedule, but if I’m having writer’s block or just not feeling it… I step away. Posting genuine content is more important to me than the number of blogs I publish. I also have about a gazillion drafts of blog ideas that come to mind. Whenever I get an idea of something to post, I write it down and go ahead an create a draft with the title. That way, I can continuously work on it and get it just right.
Q: What is your preferred social media for blogging? What about for personal use?
A: For blogging my preferred social media is Twitter, hands down. Before I started my blog, I had kind of fallen out with Twitter. But now, it’s my most used platform. I find that Twitter has been so supportive, welcoming, and responsive to both myself and my blog. You don’t have to worry about a fancy theme, or which filter to apply on Twitter. It’s all about the interaction with another person. For personal use, probably Facebook. I don’t use it nearly as much these days, but if I want to catch up with childhood friends that’s the platform that I’ll use.
Q: What’s your current phone lock screen background?
A: My boyfriend and I at the Carolina Panthers Christmas Eve game last year. It was a trip that I planned, and surprised him with. We had an amazing time!
Q: If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
A: Probably to not be so nice. I for sure have always had my feisty attitude, but I do feel that some people got too much of me. They didn’t deserve to know me as well as they did. Unfortunately, as you grow up you start to realize who is truly there for you and who is not. There’s no way to get back all of the time invested in that relationship/friendship, so you just move on.
Q: What’s your favorite type of light? (sunlight, candlelight, moonlight, LED light…)
A: Definitely, sunlight. When it’s the right time of day I don’t even turn on the lights in my house. Just allow the sunlight to pour in.
Q: List three TV shows that you would gladly watch over and over
A: Friends, How I Met Your Mother, and Reba.
Q: If you could own one animal, real or mythical, what would it be?
A: Hmm, a unicorn. Who doesn’t love unicorns? And how cool would it be to show guests your pet unicorn.
Q: What’s currently on your bucket list?
A: My bucket list is a bottomless pit, honestly. There is so much that I want to do, see, and experience in this world.
Q: What is your favorite historical period? Why? (now is an option!)
A: I’m a history buff, so this question took some serious thinking! There’s actually more than one historical period that is my favorite. Each period had it’s own discoveries, and advancements that made it unique. I honestly can’t decide on just one.
Q: What’s your favorite feeling? (Go crazy with this one!)
A: Bliss. That feeling of just being content, complete, and happy.
