ipsy glam bag: august 2018 (selfie with no filter)

ABOUT THE BAG (FROM IPSY): This bright orange pouch adds a pop of color to your summer looks & is fab for stashing your summery faves.

Wanna know what’s in my bag? My August Ipsy Glam Bag, that is. For those of you who don’t know, Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription service. For $10 a month, Ipsy will send you a makeup bag and five beauty samples.

I will say that compared to how amazing my July bag was, I was a little disappointed in August’s Bag. Especially when I saw all of the items that I could have received! I always wonder how they determine who get’s what. However, as I’ve said before you really have to go into subscriptions with an open-mind. Some months are incredible, while others can be pretty lackluster. Overall, I recieved some goodies and I’m loving the orange hue of the bag. It’s very vibrant, and fun!

So without further ado, here is what I recieved in my August glam bag. This month I didn’t really receive anything worth swatching (sadly), but as always product photos are included at the end of the post.

    • SLMISSGLAM – Rose Gold Blusher Blush
    • RÍVÉTRE BY STARLOOKS – Star Stamp Eyeliner in Black
    • BILLION DOLLAR BROWS – Mini Universal Brow Pencil
    • BENEFIT COSMETICS – The POREfessional: Pearl Primer
HEY HONEY – Take Away The Drama Youth Boosting Honey and Copper Peel-Off Mask
The first item that I received is a Synthetic Rose Gold Blusher Brush by Slmissglam. The brush is said to be universal, and can be used to apply highlighter, bronzer, and contour products. Being the sucker for anything rose gold that I am, I’m in love with the look of this brush. The handle is rose gold with glitter all over, and there are hints of gold in the bristles. This is one of those brushes that’s almost too pretty to mess up, and will be a wonderful addition to any collection! Ipsy has a tendency to send you a brush every single month, which I’m sure that some people probably enjoy. However, I personally would prefer another make-up item over a brush any day. Overall, the brush is nice and I love that the brand is cruelty-free!
The next item that I received is the Star Stamp Eyeliner by Starlooks. I’m familiar with the brand, and have loved some of their other products (especially their Gem Eye Pencils)! So, I was very pleased to see the brand included in this month’s bag. I couldn’t wait to use the star stamp, and create some fun looks with it. I’ve tried free-handing stars on myself before, and it was a mess. So, I can’t wait to incorporate the star stamp into some fun looks! I always love receiving eyeliner, because you can never have too many! This particular product I hadn’t ever heard of until I recieved it in this month’s bag. I love that it’s dual sided so one end gives you your felt-tip eyeliner pen, and the other has the fun star stamp. The stamp is very easy to use, smudge-proof, and long lasting. Same goes for the eyeliner itself. I’ve never had any issue with Starlooks eyeliners, and consider their formula to be on of the best.
Billion Dollar Brows is a company that I had never heard of prior to receiving this item. The idea of a universal brow pencil is neat, however the actual shade is a bit muggy looking. I personally felt that the product lightened my brows a bit more than I would have liked, and just made them look odd. Perhaps the universal brow pencil works for some, but for me it’s a no. I’m going to give it another try or two, but my hopes aren’t very high.
Oh, Benefit Cosmetics. I am a fan of the original porefessional primer, and this version of it I hadn’t tried prior. This primer gives your face a radiant healthy glow when applied alone. I haven’t yet worn it a full day, but I will update my opinion on it once I do. I have extremely oily skin, so we’ll see how it wears in this hot North Carolina heat. My only complaint thus far with this product is the size. This is probably the smallest sample size that I’ve ever received. Hopefully I’ll be able to squeeze out enough product to really get a feel for how it performs.

Hey Honey is a brand that I’m very familiar with, and I actually discovered through Ipsy. Every item that I’ve ever tried from this brand has been incredible, so I was very excited about receiving this item! They have some of the best cruelty-free skincare products on the market in my opinion! As with any Hey Honey mask, application is super easy and you can actually feel the mask tightening and revitalizing your skin. The mask has a copper hue to it that makes your face look bronze. The sample is a decent size, and I was able to get three masks out of it. If you’ve never tried any of their products, I would highly recommend giving this brand a try! The focus on using natural ingredients to help your skin achieve it’s full potential. If you’re wanting to pick up some Hey Honey products yourself, you can use my code simplyanjhanee10 on Hey Honey’s website for 10% off of your order or simply shop using this link! I’d love to hear your feedback on how this skincare line works for you!

What subscription services are you currently receiving, or thinking about signing up for?

I’m always on the hunt for another one to check out, so let me know! Any fellow Ipsy Glam Bag peeps out there – what did you get in your August bag?

Until next time,

Anjhanee ♡

I’m currently subbed to Birchbox but the sample size is also an issue. Sometimes it’s almost laughable. I’m thinking of switching to the Lookfantastic box, it’s UK based but it ships internationally.

I like the purse you got, though. Usually the purse is the best thing about the Birchbox as well lol

Why are we literally the same person? I used to get Birchbox, but the samples just got really bad and started getting repetitive. I’ve heard of the Lookfantastic box, and I’ve been thinking of giving it a try as well. Let me know if you start getting them! 🤗

I’m still considering lol and I need to take it easy on the online orders. This month has been insane. I can’t keep up with the reviews.

I’ve never heard of this subscription or Hey Honey but both sounds amazing! I love Benefit cosmetics and it sounds like you get really good value for money and some really great things! Thanks for sharing!

Um also a sucker for ANYTHING rose gold, that brush would have been right up my alley! Having said that, when I was getting Ipsy, I didn’t like getting a brush every month, I got over that fast! I hadn’t heard of Hey Honey and love cruelty free products, will try to find some of their stuff here in Canada. You are right about boxes/subscriptions, some months are rock stars and others meh but either way, I like a good surprise! 🙂 xx

Rose Gold is just, amazing! I like a good surprise sometimes too, I guess that’s why I enjoy subscription boxes! You definitely should try Hey Honey, they have a really great product range. Thank you so much for showing some love! ☺️
