christmas – 2018

‘Tis the season to be jolly! Fa la la la la, la la la la 🎄

I can’t believe that Christmas has already come and gone! There’s something so comforting about the coziness that lingers in the air during the Christmas Season. Originally,  I planned on participating in Blogmas this year. However, that plan didn’t quite pan out- so I decided that I’d do a little Christmas wrap-up instead! Is that a thing? Yes, no… maybe?

Now when it comes to the Holidays (especially Christmas) I go all out! My entire home is transformed into a Winter Wonderland, pretty much right after Thanksgiving. And we begin blasting Christmas Tunes every year at Midnight, on Halloween. I even go so far as to having a Wrapping Paper ‘theme’ each year complete with tags, ribbons, bows – the works. I’ve always enjoyed wrapping presents, and tend to make wrapping an event each year. One of my fondest memories is watching my late Auntie Karin expertly wrap presents each year. She would gather all of her supplies, and go to work. Every year when I’m wrapping presents I’m always reminded of that memory. I think she’d be proud of how I’ve kept some of her Holiday traditions alive. I even put a candy cane on every single present, just as she did. (picture below)

When it comes to Holiday Decor, my boyfriend and I are usually pretty in sync. However, there are a few areas where our tastes differ. Kevin prefers multi-colored lights on the tree, with traditional Christmas (Red/Green/Gold) ornaments. Whereas I prefer classic white lights, with a more out of the box ornament color scheme. For example, the ornaments on our tree last year were Mint, Blush, Sea Foam Green, and Silver. I like to mix it up!

So, how do we compromise? Well, we bought two different trees and every year we go back and forth between the two (one with white lights, one with multi-colored). That way everyone is happy, and it keeps each year a little fresh. Normally, we put up one main tree in our Den (family room). The only issue with putting the tree in our den, is that it can’t be in front of a window. I have always loved the look of a lit Christmas Tree in a window, and I decided that this year – I would get it! We have two trees anyway, so why not?

In my family, one of our traditions is that we’re allowed to open only one present on Christmas Eve. That present is always our  matching Christmas Pajamas from Granny. Once we’re all changed, we fill our belly’s and spend the night playing games, drinking hot cocoa, and just hanging out as a family. This year my granny got one of those karaoke mics, and we had the best time belting it out! We tied empty tissue boxes filled with ping-pong balls around ourselves, and then two at a time you shake to see who can get the most balls out in 30 seconds. Another game was scooping cotton balls into a small bowl, while blind-folded. Those are just a few of the activities that we did! All in all, it was an amazing Christmas Eve spent with those I love the most. When it comes to opening presents, we’re always the worst. We never wait until a reasonable time to open gifts, so we opened presents at 2am. Technically, that’s Christmas Day!

What are some of your Holiday Traditions? And when it comes to Christmas Tree lights are you Team Multi-Colored or Team White Lights? Team Real Tree or Fake Tree?

I love the PJ tradition and I think 2am is a perfectly reasonable time to open presents. I personally open them at 12.02 so you have much more patience than me!

    xx

We always have to slightly persuade Granny, unless we’d be opening presents at 12:02 as well! (:

Yes love this post!! The photos look great, and i love the look of real trees but not very practical where I love so a fake tree will do for now, hope you had a lovely Christmas x

You have so many great family Christmas traditions. We are living abroad so we’re making our traditions as we go along. Our fake tree with multi colored lights is still up waiting for us when we get back.
